A Textbook Retrospect

A Textbook Retrospect
By: Tyler Ross

I crossed into the city just the other day
From your perspective I’d say it was okay
Dandy like the smile you started off with
To the pokerface and the heart-blown kiss
You changed and I can say it with emphasis
To a cardboard cutout who’ll need a therapist
So lost in yourself
What can you do?
The true colors do show
While I’ll always stay in tune
Maturity is crucial
I hope you get there soon
Sincerity is respectful
I’m sorry; you need to leave the room
Excuses have become your vice
You are so bold now
How content you are with your life
One time its column A
Tomorrow its column B
You are going to need a map
To discover you’ve lead yourself out to sea
Shifty and inconsistent
Your life is advertised
Desperate for attention
Adding weight to your size
Call on the weakest links
You enjoy the dime a dozen
I hope you see your loss
Regret steps in as your closest cousin
You want to be alone
But you’ll put yourself up to date
You sure know how to make sense
When you’ve become a strike out at the plate
You walked a bridge and now you play with fire
What kind of person are you trying to inspire?
Such a sweet child who I can’t recognize
You aren’t high up
Who are you to big league me down to size?
